ABOUT
MISSION
The purpose of the Tooele Valley Wind Ensemble is to promote artistic enrichment in our community by providing performances of concert band music and by encouraging life-long learning through musical expression and enjoyment. The Tooele Valley Wind Ensemble is incorporated in the State of Utah and is a 501(c)(3) public charity.
OUR STORY
In 2021, during COVID-19, Bob Mosso and Ashley Teerlink recognized a need in the Tooele area for a community band. Ashley surveyed the community to gauge interest in such a group. Overnight she had almost 100 interested people! Bob and Ashley created a list of interested musicians and identified possible conductors for the group.
In May 2021 the very first meeting was held at Tooele High School where the desire to start a 501(c)(3) non-profit was established and a board of directors was assigned. Business licenses and insurance were quickly established. Natalie Snyder, Jordan Wright, and Jocelyn Sciortino-Shades were selected as conductors and co-conductors, and many others volunteered their time and knowledge to get the group going.
The Tooele Valley Wind Ensemble (TVWE) held its first rehearsal on June 10th 2021. At our first rehearsal, there were a mere 16 people that participated in the group. The TVWE within their first year will have performed 5 concerts throughout the community and has grown to approximately 40 active musicians.
This group has created a space for those with a passion for concert band music to rehearse, perform, and to make and build friendships. The TVWE has brought a sense of community to the local musicians durring a rough time period in history.
